BLMSKC Urges Immediate Investigation of Seattle City Council
September 15, 2020
Black Lives Matter of Seattle King County (BLMSKC) is taking the fight to the Seattle City Council.
According a report from MyNorthwest.com the group sent a letter to the Ethics and Elections Commission (SEEC) calling for an immediate, transparent and aggressive investigation into the actions and conduct of the city council.
The letter asks SEEC to investigate 10 different issues ranging from recent demonstrations to their approval of budget cuts that ultimately forced former SPD Chief Carmen Best out of her job. Best was the first Black woman to hold that position.
“This investigation is essential for the community’s understanding of government conduct — and it adds much needed transparency to the critical budget process that’s underway,” BLMSKC board member Livio De La Cruz commented. “The government works for the people. The people must understand what it’s doing and why.”
Kudos to BLMSKC for their leadership in demanding answers. Seattle deserves accountability from our elected officials.
