“These people need to get down to business and clean up the mess in this city.” That’s what Joe Howard, a financial trader living in Seattle, has to say to local political candidates. “I understand you want to open up society, you want a fair and equitable society, but just being airheaded about things behind a liberal ideology is not going to achieve that.”

As the final date of the primary election arrives tomorrow, there are many priorities for Seattle to address with many different challenges and trade-offs. But at the end of the day it really is as simple as Mr. Howard laid it out. People are tired of the failure to deliver real progress.

An ongoing homelessness crisis is not progressive. A surge in violent crime is not progressive. A failure to deliver basic accountability is not progressive.

Seattle voters will evaluate candidates on a number of policies and qualifications in tomorrow’s primary, but the biggest priority will be getting down to business and cleaning up the mess in this city.
